ASB has been honoured as New Zealand’s best online bank by independent researcher CANSTAR in its first ever review of the nation’s online banking market.

ASB was confirmed as the clear winner among New Zealand financial institutions based on a comprehensive review of the bank’s internet banking, website and mobile services.

In presenting the award, CANSTAR made special mention of ASB’s popular mobile banking app, which recently passed 100,000 downloads. The award comes just as ASB launched a further major upgrade to its mobile app to allow customers to make payments from their smartphone in seconds using mobile telephone numbers and email addresses instead of a bank account number.     With the latest upgrade, ASB is now the only New Zealand bank to offer mobile and email payments on both Android and Apple smartphones.

ASB’s General Manager Brand Experience & Digital Channels, Anna Curzon, says that the award is the result of ASB’s ongoing drive to remain at the cutting edge of innovation across digital, mobile, and social media. “Listening to our customers and responding by developing the technology and services they want has always been a hallmark of ASB,” she says.  “We’re proud of the online and mobile banking experiences we’ve created and our customers seem to agree in terms of the feedback we continue to receive and the support they have shown with more than 25,000 upgrading to the new ASB Mobile app in the past 10 days alone.

In addition, CANSTAR praised ASB’s world-first Virtual Facebook branch which provides customers and prospective customers with access to ASB banking specialists for real-time, secure, private conversations.

Also noted was the wide range of money management tools included as part of the bank’s ‘Track My Spend’ tool to help customers manage their money online.  Other recent innovations include ASB’s online Pre-Approved Limits (PALs) service which allows customers to adjust their credit card limits in real-time online via the bank’s internet banking service.
