Young Pacific Achiever awarded scholarship

Lower Hutt student Antonia McBryde has been awarded the joint Hutt City Council and PACIFICA scholarship award for Lower Hutt Pacific students.

In presenting the award, Lower Hutt Mayor Ray Wallace said since the award was first introduce in 1998, more than 80 Pacific people have benefited from the scholarship.

"Our relationship with PACIFICA is very successful and has assisted many Pacific students achieve their academic goals," he says.

Antonia holds a Bachelor of Law, Bachelor of Arts in Samoan Studies/Faasamoa and Te re Maori, a Diploma in English Literature and this year hopes to achieve First Class Honours in Bachelor of Pacific Studies with the assistance of the scholarship.

"I am exploring a number of options which include teaching or going on to complete my PHD. We will see how it goes," she says.

Antonia also works with the Maarist Young Adult Ministry in Lower Hutt maintaining a fellowship network for young Catholics.
