LOWER HUTT

The group, which includes GNS Science, Grow Wellington, Hutt City Council, Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce, Hutt Valley DHB, Open Polytechnic of NZ, Upper Hutt City Council and Weltec, has set five objectives focused on research, commercialisation, infrastructure, environment awareness and pride and inspiring young people.

At a meeting earlier this month the group signed off two projects: improving science teaching in primary schools and sending a Green Energy Pod to the upcoming Pacific Leaders Forum in Rarotonga.

Science teaching in primary schools

The group has committed to improving science teaching in Hutt City primary schools by supporting teachers to enrol to study for a Graduate Certificate in Primary Science Teaching via the Open Polytechnic.  This project will raise the profile of science in Hutt City classrooms and encourage students to see their own futures as part of science and technology in Hutt City. Funding will be provided by the Open Polytechnic, Hutt City Council and GNS and will include one free mayoral scholarship to each primary school in Hutt City over the next two years.

Green Energy Pod

The group has agreed to send a prototype Green Energy Pod for exhibition and use at the upcoming Pacific Leaders Forum in Rarotonga.  Read more about this exciting sustainable energy project.
