Three local firms will be providing catering services at three of New Plymouth District’s largest venues.

The Council has awarded the catering contract at Yarrow Stadium to the Taranaki Rugby Football Union, which has subcontracted to KDJ (the management company of bars associated with Crowded House).

The French Cake Shop has been awarded the contract for TSB Showplace and TSB Stadium. The firm has extensive experience in catering and held the original catering contract for the Showplace when it first opened.

Catering for events at the TSB Bowl of Brooklands will be managed individually.

Manager Recreation and Events Brent Thawley is confident the successful contractors, which were selected through an open tender process, will deliver high-quality services that are specific to each venue.

“Each of these companies has a strong customer focus and they are keen to exceed people’s expectations of service and product,” he says.

French Cake Shop Director Paul Hansen plans to provide the public with a variety of options around fresh and healthy food.

“We’re a local firm who will be delivering a service that people can have confidence in, and which will add to their experiences at these two venues,” he says.

The Yarrow Stadium contract is for a 12-month term, which enables NPDC to organise catering services before the ITM Cup rugby season begins while still considering long-term options for the venue.

TRFU Commercial Manager Geoff Hitchcock says by taking on the contract, the union will be able to enhance the entire event experience for rugby fans.

“KDJ have extensive experience in hospitality and have access to more than 100 staff, including chefs, duty managers and on-call staff, and their hospitality experience will be crucial on match days,” he says.

“We will be providing traditional stadium food as well as looking at supplementing the catering options at the stadium, with a focus on improving the overall service for patrons.”

KDJ catered at the stadium for the club rugby finals and will be on deck for this Saturday’s Ranfurly Shield challenge by Wanganui.
