With the Summer Holidays fast approaching, it’s not always easy for parents to find positive things for children to do over the break. The Stratford District Library knows the problem of keeping kids engaged in constructive activities can be hard to solve, and is continuing to offer primary school children the chance to join the Library’s ‘Summer Reading Programme.’ The programme has been running for eight years and is always well supported.

This year the Summer Programme is called ‘Rocket into reading!” and runs from 10 December 2007 to 25 January 2007. Librarian Heather Taylor says they have a number of things planned. “We give them heaps of rewards for reading and participating in the activities. It’s a lot of fun and free to enrol.”

Enrolments start at 4pm on 3rd December at the Stratford Public Library. A parent or caregiver has to accompany the child enrolling as they sign the reading contract which says ”We promise to take pride in reading”. Participants have to report in to the library at least 4 times over the 7 week period to complete the programme. Everyone who enrols will be able to join in all the activities, including the big ‘finale party’.

“As we are limited to 50 places we would encourage people to make sure they get to us to register as soon as they can from Monday 3rd December,” says Heather. “Primary school students aged 7 years and over can join and need to be a library member – which is free!”

Anyone wanting more information should contact the Stratford Public Library on 765-5403. Heather says, “We know the children of Stratford will love it! So, rocket into reading!”
