The sold sticker is on the three surplus wooden clinker boats that NPDC had for sale on Trade Me.

Each boat, which used to operate on Pukekura Park’s main lake, was listed with a $1 reserve. They have been bought by three separate people for a total of $2,765.

The blue 5m boat went for $906, the blue 4m for $856 and the red 4m for $1,003.

“It’s fair to say that they sold for much more than I thought they would,” says Curator Pukekura Park Chris Connolly.

“It just goes to show how much sentimentality these boats have for locals – nearly everyone who has grown up in Taranaki would have rowed on the main lake at some point in their lives.”

Options for use of the funds within Pukekura Park are being considered.
