Investing in high quality training paid off for McDonald’s NZ at the hospitality industry’s national training awards on Sunday night, when it picked up the HSI Supreme Award for Excellence in Training 2012.

The nationwide company was also recognised for its efforts with the Excellence in Training award for a Multi-site organisation (Quick Service Restaurant).

The Excellence in Training awards 2012, hosted by entertainer Jackie Clarke, was held at Auckland’s Langham hotel and organised by the Hospitality Standards Institute (HSI), to recognise and celebrate hospitality training achievements across the country.

This year, New Zealand schools provided tough competition in the schools category. Four schools made it to the finals, and Manurewa High School came out on top, winning the Excellence in Training (Schools) award.

Wellington hospitality teacher Katherine Stokes of Heretaunga College proved her ability to grow and nurture young hospitality talent by taking out the Hospitality Tutor/Teacher award.

HSI’s Chief Executive, Ken Harris, said “everyone here tonight who is involved in industry training contributes in a very real way towards greater productivity in our economy, enriching the lives of people – from school students to employees - through skills training, education and personal development.”

Other 2012 award winners included Modern Apprentice of 2010 Monique Rutene of Fiordland Lodge winning the inaugural Hospitality Training Trust Rising Star award, Leesa Irving for the HSI Ambassador of the Year, Academie Accor NZ in the Accommodation category and the Upper Hutt Cosmopolitan Club in the Clubs category.
