Valerie vs the Machine

 Duvauchelle School students Madaline Hutchinson, Bianca Gilmore, Hunter Ball and Dylan Bryan and their winning creation ‘The Valloon’ – which proved a tough competitor for Olympic gold medallist and Visa Olympic Ambassador Valerie Vili when they went head to head in Auckland this month. This highly original creation bet over 400 other entries to be named one of two winning designs in the Valerie vs the Machine competition winning the school $10,000. The competition, run by Visa, challenged school children to design a machine to throw a shotput further than Valerie’s gold medal-winning throw of 20.56 metres.
