NORTH SHORE CITY

Chelsea Primary School salutes the impeccable craftsmanship and valuable assistance of its parent community in the near-realisation of the building of a car race track for the students.

At least 4 schoolkids (Angelina, Angela, Reuben and Josh) plus a toddler (Sofia) were out and about today, 16th of October, 2010, – a non-school day, bursting with excitement as the post holes for the long-awaited car race track were dug out and the wooden race track structure was conspicuously positioned along the sloping banks near the existing playground of Chelsea Primary School in Birkenhead.

Neil Hayter, grandfather of Angelina, designed this lengthy car race track which will surely be a remarkable sight to all the Year 1 to Year 6 students on Monday because of its monstrosity. The track has added elevated sections in its design creating realism in its layout and making it more challenging and visually appealing. The track grades leading down to and away from the starting point to the finish line present many interesting and plenty of exhilarating imaginative play once everything is completely built.

Neil will build this race track in stages with the fantastic support and labour from our parents, Warrik Skulve, Glyn Rudgley, Steve Wirepa and Raymond Hayter.

This is also an exciting assignment no doubt to Pete Anderson, one of the teachers at Chelsea Primary School who liaises with the parent helpers and with the school’s Sports Coordinator, Mrs Jennie Le Sueur, who is the main proponent of this car race track idea.

Mr Anderson mentioned that the building of the race track will likely be completed before the end of this year. He said, “We greatly appreciate Neil and other parents’ labour support and to think that they are helping us out while they also have their usual working lives to live.” Indeed, the school is indebted to its parent community.

When the car race track building is completed, we envisage several test runs before students (or teachers) brace themselves for a series of awesome racing!

He aha te mea nui o te ao?
He tangata! He tangata! He tangata!

What is the most important thing in the world?
It is people! It is people! It is people!

And as Dr Seuss said, “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better.” But you did! You care a whole awful lot and we salute you for that!
