Large geothermal project welcomed

Taupo — Contact Energy's Tauhara II geothermal project will be an important step toward New Zealand achieving its target of 90 per cent renewable energy by 2025, Energy and Resources and Economic Development Minister Gerry Brownlee said today.

New wind farm welcomed

Raglan — Wind energys positive contribution to New Zealand is growing as good progress is made with several projects,says New Zealand Wind Energy Association Chief Executive Fraser Clark, welcoming Meridian Energys announcement that it will begin construction of its 64 megawatt (MW) Te Uku Wind Farm, near Raglan.

Mayors voice concerns over storms

Waikato — Power companies need to give higher priority to restoring power to farms during storms so that animals don’t suffer, Hauraki District Council mayor John Tregidga said at yesterday’s meeting of the Waikato Civil Defence and Emergency Management (CDEM) Group in Hamilton.
