Shaun Collins, along with Phil Wood run Lactic Turkey Events. Since 1996 Lactic Turkey Events have been injecting a little bit of adventure into their participants lives. Lactic Turkey is a small company run by Shaun Collins and Phil Wood, both of whom are active competitors in adventure races, orienteering and many other adventure off-road type events. Shaun and Phil have full time jobs as a Financial Controller and Builder respectively and run Lactic Turkey as a hobby to give something back to the community and sports that they enjoy themselves. Lactic Turkey organises events throughout the year with the aim of getting people into the outdoors, having a go at something that will challenge them physically and for some events mentally as well. Our events are aimed at people of all ages, fitness levels and skills and we actively coach people to improve their skills by holding evening coaching sessions relevant to upcoming events. Events currently organised by Lactic Turkey include: • Wild Moa Multisport event - Rotorua • Wild Turkey Off-Road Half Marathon & 16km – Whatipu • Moro Madness 8 Hour Run/Walk Relay – Riverhead • Hunua Classic Mountain Bike Ride – Waharau/Hunua • Rogaine Series (2 event series) - Waitakere Ranges/Hunua • Night Bush Fun Runs (3 event series) – Waitakere Ranges/Hunua/Okura Walkway • Round Lake Okataina Off-Road Run – Rotorua • Greatest Little Fun Run in the Universe (13/5km Fun run or walk at Huia) • P6 6 hour adventure race – various locations within 90 minutes of Auckland Our participants range in age from small children carried in backpacks to 70 year olds. They mainly represent the Auckland region but also participants from further afar with strong contingents from areas including New Plymouth, Whakatane, Rotorua, Taupo and some from further a field, such as Wellington and the South Island. Our events inspire a real sense of self-belief in the participants when obstacles are overcome. The common profile of a Lactic Turkey competitor is a person that wants to get into the outdoors to experience life and conquer the physical and mental challenges that inevitably arise. We as event organisers are active in outdoor pursuits and enjoy exploring new places.
