Motueka — The following is a roading update as at 1930 hours.
Nelson — 3:30PM, 18 DECEMBER 2011 As a precautionary measure, residents from approximately 30 homes above the Rocks Road slip will be evacuated after a geotechnical inspection noted recent land movements.
Nelson — A Civil Defence emergency is still in place in Nelson Bays as the area is hit by heavy rain.
Tasman — Slips and flooding through most catchments in Tasman District have resulted in significant quantities of debris heading downstream, potentially including animal carcasses, structures, vehicles and large logs that would not normally be in the river flow.
Motueka — In a repeat of Monday’s heavy rain event river levels are rising in the lower Motueka River and will continue to do so for the next few hours.
Motueka — River levels are expected to continue rising in the lower Motueka River for the next three to four hours.
Takaka — The Tasman District Council is in the process of investigating how the Takaka township may be affected in the event of a large flood in the Takaka River.
Tasman — In late December, while parts of New Zealand basked in sunshine, the top of the South Island and Golden Bay in particular was hit by the worst flooding in 169 years.
