Bay of Plenty — 25 November 2011: 4.15pm Seventeen “very happy” rare New Zealand dotterels were released back into their natural habitat yesterday (24 November) after being pre-emptively caught following the Rena grounding.

Rat sighting on pest free Tuhua

Bay of Plenty — The caretaker on Tuhua (Mayor Island) and Department of Conservation (DOC) staff have worked over the weekend to ramp up the island’s rat detection and control system, after a rat was reportedly seen at Opo (South East) Bay late last week.
